Dynamic Wing Tsun Kung Fu

Wing Tsun is a direct style of Chinese Kung Fu that wastes no time or effort on superfluous movements.

wing chunWing Tsun (pronounced "wing chun") is a dynamic and intelligent fighting system originating from China. It's perhaps best known exponent was the 70's movie star Bruce Lee. Wing Chun is dependable and un-compromising self-defence and NO martial sport. It promotes your own strengths and sharpens your perception. For only if you know your own capabilities is that you can use them assertively. Learning Wing Chun means getting to know yourself. When applying Wing Chun one never attacks, but it is aggressive in the defence. It is a system of inner growth and a way for a more relaxed, liberated and healthier life.

Wing Tsun believes in using the least amount of required force in any fighting situation. It believes properly, correct timed position and movement can and should be used to defeat their opponent. This is achieved through balance, body structure and relaxation.

Wing Tsun uses deflection and counter-attack in the same motion or will intercept the opponent to nullify an attack, rather than blocking then attacking in two separate motions. Further, this interception can act as a block as a consequence of the structure and the position of the arm travelling along its path toward the opponent.

This means that the opponent's attack is automatically deflected by the arm-structure of the Wing Tsun practitioner as the counter-punch is delivered.

self defenceA person using Wing Tsun is said to be able to defeat a stronger person because they are able to use their structure effectively. Given this, it is essential in ensuring that the Wing Tsun practitioner has a full understanding of structure which enables them to use the correct use of energy required.

Concepts instead of techniques

Dynamic Wing Tsun Kung Fu is based on self evident concepts as well as sound body dynamics. Concepts are used to highlight and illustrate ideas and therefore help in information retention.

Wing Tsun differs form other styles in that it has a relatively limited 'arsenal' of techniques. In fact it doesn't use its movements as pre-set techniques, but adapts its tools in the most appropriate way dictated by a situation following universally applicable principles (centerline, economy of motion, etc.).

If compared to language learning Dynamic Wing Tsun training focuses more on the grammar, i.e. the structure of fighting instead of rote learned phrases (techniques) that are only usable in a fixed context (if that). It has hence been described as "logic applied to combat" and a form of "physical chess".
